Nice digs!

I've always had a deep interest in philosophy and spirituality. I've also always had a fascination with science fiction and the hope that they showed for us all. Star Wars brought it all together into a package that made us think about the world and our societies in some different ways.

Since I was young I have persued opportunities to improve myself in many of the ways that the Jedi work on. So much of the Jedi philosophy matches (perhaps even comes from) zen and samurai philosophy I had already studied much of that when I discovered that there were people actually trying to live the Jedi philosophies.

I am now an active member of the Chicago Jedi Chapter. I also attended the 2009 Michigan Gathering and I highly recommend everyone plan to attend a future gathering as the sensation that the Jedi Temple exists momentarily in that place and time is amazing.

Due to my interest in Japanese influenced philosophies, I also study the Japanese language and a few different Japanese martial arts. Due to my interest in linguistics, I have also studied a number of other languages, though I only count myself as currently being fluent in English and Spanish.

To support myself, I am a Podiatrist. Feet may seem like an unusual field, but as the "foundation" of the body, they are an important part of one's overall medical condition. The profession gives me ample opportunities to practice both of my main talents, teaching and healing.

I like to talk. Especially about myself. Given the opportunity, I could go on quite long. But I feel this is an adequate beginning. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Glad to see you here, Jeremy! It was wonderful meeting you and your family at the Gathering! Looking forward to next year already. :) Definitely hope to see more of you around the forums, and am also hoping to make it up to the next Regional Gathering in your area. I'll know for sure if I can make it once you guys pick a date. :p

Funny, healing and teaching are my two callings too, and I chose the physical therapy field because it let me do both. Definitely know how important the feet are. ;)

So I added an avatar for myself. I used a Japanese kanji and zoomed in on it real close so the edges even got cut off a little. But then it looked like a stylized picture of a mad klingon.

I think my current one works a little better.

What does the kanji mean?

The simplest translation is, "good," but to be more specific it refers to, "good," as in, "virtuous, opposed to evil." It is generally pronounced, "zen."

However, I now find myself seeing the mad Klingon in all versions of this kanji, even my new avatar. The concept of the mad Klingon seems almost antithetical to the traslation of, "virtuous, opposed to evil."
