Kela was a very self conscious person and would give up very easily, but she was very beautiful. She liked boys and wanted to find a boyfriend. She wore some make up and dressed nicely. She asked a friend about what she could do to make boys like her. Her friend told her to wear more make up and more revealing clothes.

The next day she did as her friend suggested, and she was swarmed with boys who wanted her for nothing but her looks.

Three days later, she was sitting on a bench very down and depressed. A wise-man passing by stopped and looked at her. “What is wrong my dear?” he asked.

“I wanted to find a boy who would care for me rather than my looks. Why can’t I find that guy?”

The wise-man realized that she would give up easily. “I understand. You are very ugly”, he said, “so why bother wearing all that make up and dressing like that?”

The girl ran off crying.

A day later she went out with no make up and dressing modest. And she found the person who saw her true beauty.

lesson 1 if it's meant to be it will happen
lesson 2 it doesn't matter how you look on the outside good people will see what's on the inside.
lesson 3 friends don't always know best, you should use your own judgement

Lesson 1 - If you want people to like you for your better qualities, that's what you need to showcase.

Lesson 2 - Chics wear too much makeup. :p

amen to that .... i don't like monets .... look good from a distance then when you get up close it's a complete mess...these days women wear waaaay too much make up...some look like kabuki ....often i think that they're trying to hide something by dressing up fancy and globbing on the make up...just show the real you and that will be enough

What's wrong with Monet!? :p And you guys should be careful not to generalize. Not all women wear too much makeup.

I like the concept of the koan, though. I follow the same philosophy in life. I'd prefer for people like me for who I am rather than for someone I pretend to be.

Sweet Koan! I can say as an older woman that too much make-up doesn't even help decrepid people like yours' truly. But sometimes dressing up and doing hair - sigh - well it's just a whole lotta fun.

Everything in it's time and place - huh?

I guess the koan also says sending the message isn't always being the message when we "put on a show"? Those who love us love us - and those who may not may love the show...

i agree not all women cake on l'oreal....lately though it's getting rarer to find women happy with their natural beauty...so many of them spackle their faces, get implants, injections or some other form of false advertising....as a guy i feel bad that so many women lack the self esteem...which is of course often caused by a guy when they were younger...
