So,
The Council of the JTO would like to establish the idea of a Jedi Olympics. This is to be done over the internet. This is the message that I sent to Opie Macleod at the JTO:
I was thinking that there could be a Jedi Olympics. That would be kind of cool and fun wouldnt it? the events would be:
1. Dueling
2. Team Dueling
3. Sparring
I will be posting this idea at orders such as TS, COJK, JAO, TOJO, IJU, JRC/JGG. Ok?
The choices of frequency are:
once every 6 months
once a year
once every two years
Please tell me your opinions and give me a yes or a no. We need 6 people from each order to say yes for this top happen.

what kind of challenges/events are you thinking of? Not much you can do over the net....

Duels on the internet? What kind of.... never mind.
I was all excited for a moment.

Surely this is intended as a type of gathering, and not some sort of electronic game. I would suggest bi-annually. What are the chances we would get more people attending that than the current gatherings. One of the guys in our Chicago group would also like to see a regularly scheduled international competition. He is thinking more along the lines of a typical martial arts competition. In addition to various types of sparring there could be forms competitions where people could show off choreographed single, dual, and multiple forms (maybe even with the lights dimmed).

Yes on the net. It is actually quite fun. It helps you know your parries and attacks and figure out strategies.

I think were going to need more of an explanation. Not to be difficult or anything....But are you talking about Martial? Debate? RP? Perhaps you can provide an example?

Ok so, here is a duel that I did with my padawan at JTO:
Opie Macleod: Attack 2, to attack 5.
adkprincezuko: I bring my daber up to my left side to block your attack 2 then flip my saber down to the attack 5 block it then do a Golcho Chagee
adkprincezuko: Golcho Chagee is a hook kick
Opie Macleod: (yeah I went to the board to find it =) ) I step and lean back to avoid the Golcho Cha Gee. Spin around and use attack 6.
adkprincezuko: Parry then I do attack 2 attack 5 attack 3 attaack 5
Opie Macleod: Back-peddling, I use parry 2, parry 5, parry 3, and parry 5. And perform a Ap Cha Gee immediately after I use attack 1.
adkprincezuko: I do a parry 1 then a circular block then a stab then spin around, stab then jump back
Opie Macleod: I side-step the first stab, deflecting the saber. Jump back to avoid the second stab. I seek to close distance with a spin to attack 2, and than attack 6.
adkprincezuko: parry 6, I duck then jump and as I jump i do a rising kick right in between your legs and as I come down I do an attack 1
Opie Macleod: I slightly jump and fall back to avoid the kick. I land on my back on the ground. I snap up (we called them pancakes when I use to break dance, I think many call them chinese get-ups). And and use parry 1, just in time. I do a Side Kick.
adkprincezuko: I stop your leg with my wrist, grab it, take the bottom of my saber hilt and slam it into you knee cap
Opie Macleod: I guess this isn't a friendly duel. Ouch! Since is such close range, I grab your shirt, use a headbutt to your nose. Use attack one followed by two stabs to the chest, and attack 5.
Right there is where he won the duel.
There are 3 types of duels.
First Blood (the first one to get hit loses)
To the death (you play until the opponent is "dead")
Timed (The judges will give you a time of 8 days and then they will judge who wins unless someone is "killed" before the 8 days is up)

I'd be interested in a real life event if that idea ever gets off the ground. No interest in online RP'ing. Some people get a kick out of that (haha), but I'mma pass.

Ah, so your talking about RP. I've got my hands full enough over at STOR. Thanks for the offer though! ^_^

Yeah. I'm a pass, too. Too much real life to work that hard on virtual life.

I was almost excited. Till I found out it was an online duel. Sorry you can put down 2 for NO.

Maybe this should be cancelled until we ALL meet in person

While I'm a firm believer that a great many things can be studied and tested and or examined, on-line physical sparring and or Martial arts is definitely not one of those things. While I could see this used as a mental exercise testing perhaps reaction and understanding of where the attack is going and what the suggested block may be. Very rarely (As I am sure most here will agree ) will it work out the same in the real world. Also while you may know the correct blocks and movements without physically doing them over and over again you won't be able to properly apply them in an actual fight.

That would be a no from me regarding an online dueling in the manner that Austin Skywalker has described.

i was at first interested thinking it to be a physical world thing, however (maybe its just me) but the whole attack 3, attack 5 thingy lost me...when i was taught we used regular names for the various techniques...ie: rising parry, rising thrust parry,etc...much like in shuri te we used mawashi geri (round kick) etc...

I'm in for an offline event but online role play fighting almost always de-evolves into "My light saber is FAR superior to/bigger than yours" without a rule set, and turns into just a game of chance with a rule set.

idea officially terminated!

So then...... real life tournament... when and where? :D
So these numbers for techniques, where do they come from?
Austin Skywalker

From rjk

I say no these sItes are meant for training not games. Plus how would it feel if some of us couldn't participate. I always thought that would be cruel and not very jedi like. just my two cents and my vote is no
Zaron
02-21-2010, 07:43 PM
and you trust them? RJK has proving in my opinion that there techniques can't be trusted Not trying to start a fight or upset someone just saying what I've seen
Zaron
02-21-2010, 07:46 PM
opps just saw that there was more then 1 page forget the first message exept the middle part
Austin Skywalker
02-22-2010, 09:40 AM
No I dont trust RJK AT ALL. I infact only use there main site. I do no ever visit there forum. This is because I left and said some things that were true, but the COuncil didnt like. So, even though I had already left, they banned me from there board. Plus I already said this idea was terminated.
Zaron

Perhaps something can be salvaged from the basic concept of this though. Have you considered starting a thread focused on a single attack, well presented with video and textual examples of said attack motion, to discuss possible defensive motions - or counter offensive motions - to deal with said attack? Perhaps a thread per movement and then a discussion of defensive/counter offensive measures? While it is true we can not practice technique on a forum, we can brain storm and maybe learn a few things from each others brains in the process, get a few ideas to try out next time we are sparing, and generally broaden our horizons on the various ways to deal with an attack.
Again though make the attack clear, use video examples of the attack, give some examples of defenses used perhaps even.

that sounds like an interesting concept...

recently I bought a set of banzai samurai (http://banzaisamurai.com/) foam dueling swords from Toys R Us. It's made with the same requirements of Chanbara Sports (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUDgsFZgHYs) It's about $25 a for a pair much less than the ones offered in the martial arts catalog.
This is basically a way to do Kendo without the armor for the warriors on a budget. Maybe we can use this if we ever have a physical Jedi Olympic.

wish the guy that trained me to use a sword had some of that stuff....we trained on the beaches of guam using bamboo shinai...knee deep in sand so you couldn't run...had to block and dodge...i lost count of all the bruises i had from training....it's a good way to learn though...as pain can be a powerful teacher
Mindas Arran
03-03-2010, 07:16 AM
How do you train footwork knee deep in sand? Footwork is the better part of swordsmanship, so I can't imagine training exercises that would exclude it.
RyuJin
03-03-2010, 01:22 PM
we did footwork in the water where the current made balance much harder (almost impossible during tide changes) it was also risky since we were doing it on coral...one slip and lots of pain/blood...when we were in the sand he only wanted me to focus on blocking and waist movement....sort of a "bend like a reed" thing i guess...i really never questioned his methods, just did as told
Mindas Arran

Hopefully you threw something with a focus of five after he called strike. :sHa_hehe:

I am afraid I too must decline... should there be an event where we can test our skills face to face I'll be the first to throw my hat in the ring but my online gaming is restricted to the flavour of the week on FB...LOL

Austin, if you want to do online tournaments, perhaps you could turn your interests to something like Chess? ;)
Charles
04-22-2010, 03:30 AM
Actually Chess, or Go, would both be good things for us all to take up from a tactics stand point.
Setanaoko

I agree, I am a terrible player though.... >.> Maybe I would be better at Go? (yeah right, Chess is complicated enough!!!)
