Hello. I would like to take a poll. Please fill out this form and post it here:

Country:
Region:
State/Province:

Town:

This is to find out where Jedi are.

Wouldn't it be easier to just go to the Jedi Map?

The Map's option already does this :)

You can also go to the memberlist and do the same.

Can I be added to the map without telling it my town?

You add the location by latitude/longitude so whatever you put in for that it will show. You could put your location down but for a couple of town over or even a couple of cities over. It can be as specific as you like. My suggestion is if you don't want to have your location listed at least within an hour or so of your actual location I wouldn't bother putting it down as that kind of defeats the purpose of it.

I'm curious why you would ask all of us to post where we live when you are unwilling to do so yourself? What makes you concerned about posting your town? Why do you think the same reasoning should not apply to us? Just curious.

I am only 13 my parents dont like me telling exactly where I live. I actually just wanted to see who was in my area for a gathering. But There arent many people so if this topic could be closed that would be great thanks

I see now. I hadn't considered age as a factor, but what you say makes a lot of sense. It would be great if you could put some sort of marker on the map in case someone else comes along also looking for others. How close would your parents let you put a marker? At the nearest large intersection? The nearest downtown area? The nearest interstate exit? The nearest county seat?

i think if you simply put the town it would be alright....when you think about it how many people in your town have the same or similar name, i myself have seen my name in the phonebook with 10 different addresses and numbers yet only one of them is actually me the other 9 are people with the same name....as long as you don't put your exact address, phone number or some other means of pinpointing you should be o.k. for example if you live in portland oregon you can put down portland and it should be fine as it doesn't give a specific location like 123 morgan rd., portland oregon 99898...i don't give my exact location just my town as i like to maintain a certain level of personal security for my home.

I definitely don't recommend posting your exact location, especially if you are under 18. Ask your parents if it would be ok to post the location of the nearest large city, though. I can close the thread if you like, but figured I'd give people a chance to post responses first.

JDMCOWAN:
I could put in the largest town nearest to me.

I would put it in the most likely place to hold a get together with other jedi, like a park or other public venue. Putting it in a big city is a good idea as well.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure there's only one other person with my name in Chicago (and coincidently he works with my sister-in-law). There is also a beer maker in New York. And a few others around the world. But depending on the size of his town, it's possible that Austin is the only one with his name in his town. And as the parent of a 7th grader, I can certainly understand his parent's hesitation to let him put personal information on the web.

For myself, I have marked a major landmark in my neighborhood. Others in Chicago can still see what neighborhood I'm in, but they wouldn't have a guess as to which way or how far my house is.

I had the same concerns when I was asked for my location on the map. It was suggested I put up a location of the major city or a nearby location. So I put down my next door neighbors location J/K.

Your parents are right to be concerned with stuff like this. Good job on being careful.

So you're saying that's the wrong ?:sCo_chinscratch: Now I'm going to have to change everything.
