Hey guys. I am curious as to what you guys want to see at the next gathering. I can certianly teach another sword demo if we would like to see that at the next gathering. I can expand on any subject we only touched on at the last gathering like wresting with the sword, half swording, or techniques from the bind. I can also teach any number of swords and weapons from single handed sword, cut and thrust, rapier, digger, quarter staff, poll axe, messer (scimitar in the east) spear, lance, or any other weapon combo excluding the ordinary axe.

If i teach another orienteering class at the gathering it will be more usage of the compass instead of compass theory. I would set up a course for everyone to follow instead of asking for imaginary numbers. If you were at the IN gathering before, it would be more like that. I already knew the area, so i just laid out the objects easily. I am also interested in integrating real world situations into the course rather than just point a to point b course taking. I would still have an intro so people would know how to take a bearing on a compass, i would focus on the simple finding on oneself on a map and searching of a designated area. To tell you guys the truth, i would like to run a mock search after teaching a course on getting around.

SO i guess this is more of thread about descriptions about offered courses.

I'd like to offer a class on some really interesting martial arts theories and training methodologies -- separating the 'fluff' from the 'stuff'.

I'd also like to offer a class on a qigong set called Jingang Jiuzhang.

Andy, did you develop your weapons skills in the SCA?

I was thinking of offering a PowerPoint lecture and discussion focusing on the Star Wars narrative through the lens of Joseph Campbell's Hero Myth. One can then apply this knowledge to one's own journey and identification with the hero archetype. When I did this with my local chapter, the discussion was great. (I am also turning this workshop/material into a course over at the Institute for Jedi Realist Studies.)

One member of our local group has been in martial arts for over 30 years. He is planning on attending and I have asked if he would like to present something to the group. He hasn't specified what he would teach, so I will keep people posted.

Btw, if anyone is interested in leading a workshop, if you could write a short paragraph about what your workshop is about (at least 3-4 sentences) along with any materials that participants would need, that would really, really help me out with typing up the workshop descriptions and itineraries. It'll also really help me out with advertising potential workshops at other sites.

Feel free to post descriptions right in this thread. Thanks!

I would like to see some instruction in sword - kendo and or fencing, European sword techniques would be good.

The classes suggested so far sound good :)

Are there any workshops for children contemplated? How many children show up and what are their ages generally?

Well Kairi counts for one...although the most in activity she will be doing is being passed around by everyone cooing at her :-p

Mikey is another....Jeremy's kid I believe would count for another (unless he's not coming?)

Not sure who else....that's 2 and 1 - 3month.... 3 so far.

Edit: dunno the ages.... >_< for the two younglings. You can find them lightsaber battling in the MI gathering vid's I posted up here on JRC.

Edit 2: Who all is coming to the gathering anyways? Do we have an updated list up yet?

If you could also list how much time you would need, that will help with scheduling. I suspect workshops will be either 30, 60 or 90 minutes in length.

I'll probably post an updated attendance list and potential workshop list next month. I've had a lot of people tell me they're interested in attending, but haven't submitted application forms yet.

David will be there (13 y/o) and I hear that Mikey and Coragus' son (I'm sorry to say I forget his name) will be there too. Begoņa is coming, but again, is not interested in the workshops. She has asked me to offer her assistance with the children and I think she's also hoping there will be a couple more spouses there that might accompany her for some shopping or a movie or something.
